I saddled up Keri-- of course. Today OYY Dante was so excited to be the chosen one. He's a 4 year old gelding who for one reason or another does not get the chance to get out much. As a matter of fact-- this trail ride will be the second one of his life. He's at a stage where ring work is not appealing or productive for him-- trail is where he really blossoms and show his best side. Keri and I stop and turn around to snap a photo of the start of the journey. We don't have a lot of time-- but enough to do a nice ride out.
We trot down the dirt road about a mile to get on the trail we decided on. Dante is all ears forward and totally joyful. For the road part of the trek, we trot side by side.
Once we get on the trail, Dante decides he is brave leader all the way !
Dark gross dank water and mud
Whoops-- this tree is a bit low to ride under.
As we head past this area, we decide to add on what we call the Extended Loop.. which is lots of fun with dips and rises, turns and curves-- like a roller coaster. Here, we canter and it was great to watch Dante enjoy himself so fully. Keri wanted to be in front, but she gave up the lead to Dante as if to say-- go for it young man and show your stuff....
The trail opens up into pasture- an old farm set up on the hill at the end of a dead end road. It's always somewhat of a surprise for horses new to this trail to come upon the house and patio doors--- they come around the corner and can see their reflection. Even more unnerving, when someone says HELLO out the window unexpectedly... the horses are not ready for a voice coming from what seems to be nowhere.
All our rides out are so cleansing and uplifting.... especially when I can watch a novice horse like Dante having such a wonderful time.
Enjoy your day ~
