Fresh Trail !

Not one to shy from a challenge- here's another blog post ! Monday, Zoe and I headed back over to the trail we were trotting on Sunday to do some heavy exploration. The day started out with some ominous cloud cover, but the sun triumphed - blue skies, a little chilly and beautiful riding weather. We entered the snowmobile trail just minutes from my house - and here we are just coming out of the woods -- dark to light.

The view from here is a nice one- this is up and around behind my farm.

And everyone should know the 'routine' now.. if you want to see lots more photo's.. visit my farm blog :)

This brings us over to the entrance of the trail we were traveling on Sunday. This time, we trotted up and down every turn-off we spied. Some went somewhere, some did not. At the top of the ridge- you can tell there once must have been an old farm.. with the pattern of stone walls and evidence of lots of new growth in old hay fields or pastures. We found this long-ago well in the overgrown brush. It's pretty well camouflaged.

One of the left turns we took, climbed the side of the ledge with a narrow footpath or perhaps deerpath. Looking like an innocent little wooded trail- but as it wound around and gained altitude.. it became narrow I was nervous.. steep ledge to the left, steep drop off to the right. :)

Here's about the only spot I felt was wide enough to feel comfortable snapping photo's. The trail dead-ended at an airplane beacon light -

which I could not get a full picture because the space up there was tight.. now off to find another trail again.

We ended up finding a fabulous trail.. completely new to us - which traveled forever it seemed.. with so many offshoots, we'll have fun for weeks in there. It was difficult to decide when we came to forks in the road-- up or down, left or right. After awhile, we no longer knew where we were in relation to where we were going to 'come out' - how far from the house would we be ? It was not until we came out of the woods and discovered an 'over-look' that we got our bearings.

We recognize that building which is quite far away - across the Black River and on the other side of Route 10/106. Pretty exciting.. as this new discovery opens up a lot of possibilities for us in terms of rides that don't back track.

From here, we took so many different turns and trails - I am blurry on the exact details ! Most of this trip was all new territory for us - which is hard to imagine considering all the riding we have done in the 20 some years we've lived here.

Toward the end of the journey, we trotted past this pond- where the sky is reflected so brilliantly in the water.

What a blast we had- I just love discoveries !!

Enjoy ~

  1. WOW! I was looking forward to this post, as I knew you went out yesterday. What a ride! Thanks for taking us along; an incredible experience. Loved all the pictures, especially the one of Zoe coming out into the light and the one of the pond reflecting the sky. I did an up-close on the hidden stone wall to find it. You two are so adventuresome and go on the BEST challenging rides. I love this RAC blog! Now on to the Top O' the Hill blog to get even MORE detail...
