The Night before - Chapter 5 of Holiday Dressing

ENTRY #13

Twas The Night Before Christmas
The Barn Was A-Buzzzzz
With Whinnies And Nickers
'Cause That's What Horse Does!
The Legend Was Echoed
Through All Of The Walls
Excitement Was Mounting
In All Of The Stalls!

here is a little group ready for their sugar plum dancing visions....

Little boy elves and little girls in their nightgowns - hoping that they have been nice all year ! Here's the group preparing for their stage pose ~

OYY Miss Kitty (in her lovely and fashionable nightwear) and OYY Salvadore's Legend (appearing here as the helpful elf) gathering together for their holiday festive play. Places everyone - quiet in the audience, the show is about to begin !

a bit of hustle and bustle as the kids calm down and find their places and try to remember their lines. As director of this Christmas production... I guess I'll have to take a deep breath and call on my great patience.. they are just little weanlings !

It's all coming together now

This little helper is certainly going on the nice list !

it's raining out -- the show must go on... and no complaints from this group at all.

Tiny Miss Kitty is this season's newest and most charming starlet ~

And let's not forget to send holiday kudos to costume designer -- what a fabulous nightgown

Cheery red flannel with small black horses carousing throughout

This nightie was Zoe's when she was young .. how cute is that ?

Also -- in the co-starring role ... handsome and rakish.. a legend before his time..  'Legend'

He was well casted for this role.

The Weanlings, In Wonder
Had Heard Of The Tale
As They All Gathered Round
To Munch On A Bale!
The Fillies, The Geldings,
The Stallions And Mares
Then Told Of The Legend
Amidst Wide Eyed Stares.

WAIT -- I hear hoof beats yonder....
When All Of A Sudden
They Heard On The Roof
The Flutter Of Wind
The Landing Of Hoof!
Her horn How it Glistened
Her Whinny So Proud
As she Entered The Stage
Astounding The Crowd ...
Who Stood There Awaiting
The Unicorn Dear
The Truth Of The Legend
Was Blatantly Clear!

 The cowgirl assisted
From the Unicorn's Side
Her Hat And  great coat
  Glistening red white pink
The bells How They Jingled
With A Wonderful Song
That Would Echo In Memories
For All The Year Long!

SHe Gave Out The Gifts
Of Carrots And Treats
Then Sprang To the air
For A Hasty Retreat...
For The Hour Was Late
And she Just Had To Leave
But Now, All The Weanlings
Would Finally Believe!
And As the Unicorn Flew Then
Away In The Night
The Horses Enchanted
By The Wondrous Sight
Had Hearts Filled With Joy
And The Barn Filled With Love
And Mares Will Tell Foals
of the Christmas Unicorn from above !

The End

thanks to the cast and helper elves, great job !

In case you wondered why I was photographer and behind the scenes director/costume designer and not in the "BOSS" suit today...  shortly after our last auditions, I fractured my hand and it's bound up in a bulky un-co-ordinated cast .. Friday I go for pins .. and can you believe - the doctor mentioned once I had pins in my hand and finger I had to stay away from the barn ...  HELLO.... SERIOUSLY ???

We managed a pretty fair production today despite the miserable rain.. I am so proud of Kitty and Legend.. and of course my lovely OYY Sweet Dream's Baby (aka Mari) in her first speaking part of the Christmas Unicorn (who says I don't have talking horses ?)

by the way-- speaking of talking horses.. Miss Elektra said she was jealous of Fiona. She is just chomping at the bit to be harnessed and pull the Santa sleigh featured here in this post as our stage back-drop.  we'll see if there is time and the weather co-operates.

Merry Merry -- OYY Miss Kitty, OYY Salvadore's Legend, Zoe (Miss Pink Holiday Cowgirl ), Dominic (helpful elf), OYY Sweet Dream's Baby, and Betsy in dreary but cheerful Vermont !

  1. Oh Betsy! Did you say "miserable rain" or "miserable PAIN?" How on earth did you do all this with a fractured hand?! Unbelievable. What a brilliant idea to dress your babies up! And your talent even extends to writing poetry, seriously? It was fantastic! I just love how you all work together and have so much fun with the horses. What exceptional babies and that stunning unicorn..wow! He sure made quite the entrance, didn't he? Inspite of the rain, you sure pulled this off -- BRAVO Top of the Hill ELFS!

  8. I've gotten smart, and I leave the RAC Blog page up as one of my tabs so I can read Betsy's daily entry!! And, she did not disappoint!! The weanlings did super! I LOVE that you used Zoe's former red nightgown! And the Unicorn, making a guest appearance, was absolutely perfect. Dominic is really working out to be a great Assistant Elf!! You need to listen to the doctor at least a little bit after you get those pins in, lady, OR you are apt to end up with a chronically painful problem. I say this from experience, unfortunately!! I can imagine you scheming now how to do all sorts of stuff that you shouldn't be doing because you won't be "in the barn" technically! :-)

  9. I love the unicorn!!! Merry Christmas to your and your family. I love your pageantry and artistic touch - fabulous. Can't imagine how you accomplished all of this with a throbbingly painful broken hand.
