Finally the state parks are back open, have been cleaned up, and we have no plans other than trail riding and camping! We went out to a closer park to us being we had to work till Friday, I get every other one off. To our surprise when we got there, there wasn't very many people at the park. It was such lovely weather, no rain, no humidity, and hardly any bugs! We got almost the whole park rode over the weekend. The bottom most trail that rides along the river was still closed due to flooding and even some of the lower trails we where on were a bit mucky yet. Thank goodness for 4 wheel drive :) All the flowers where in full bloom in the prairies, it was just a joy to be out doing what you love and with those that you love! We took a late afternoon ride on Saturday and didn't make it but 2 miles about and Lane the littlest one fell asleep on my hubby. So we had to turn around and head back to camp early :( Thank goodness for such a good horse like Larry to give him such a nice ride to take a nap! Saturday night we had a camp fire with our neighbors and talked about the curly horse breed. The boys thought that we braided their manes and tails is why they looked that way. Sunday am got in one more ride, took the trail that we weren't able to finish the afternoon before due to sleep head! Then headed back for home. This weekend headed to a "Cowboy Up Ride Against Cancer" in ND. Last year they drew in over 500 riders. They have several fun events to over the weekend, really looking forward to a nice time and to ride in the National Grasslands as well. Marley and I are making sure we are sporting our RAC t-shirt out on the trail. I already have it in the washer ready to go next weekend too :)
Till next time,
Marley, Larry, & Dana
How fun to go camping like that Dana. It's so cute that your little guy fell asleep on Larry! My son just turned 3 and while he loves to help with Linus and feed and brush him he is more interested in riding things with a motor!
ReplyDeleteDana you are so busy! You keep your horses in work, that's for sure, with all sorts of varied things. Can't believe that you have prairie in your state park!! Fields of 30-40 acres are few and far between around here. I would have to go to the potato fields of Aroostic County (up north in Maine) to see any sort of a view to resemble that. Can't wait to see pictures of your upcoming ride against cancer. What a great cause, and I bet you will have a great time!
ReplyDeleteOur state parks have such a variety here in MN it is really nice. We save the more challenging parks for when my hubby and I ride alone. We have oak savannahs, sand flats, rolling hills, hardwood forests, prairies, and then the "Mountians of MN" in the south that are rough and a bit of a challenge. We are pretty pumped up about our trip up North this weekend, I started packing what I could in the trailer already :)
ReplyDeleteWe try to let the boys have time for the things that they like as well besides the horses. Riding the 4-wheeler and the lawn mower. Like you said as long as it has a motor they want to be on it! :)
I love it. Keep the tradition growing...Angie
