Water Water everywhere

Thursday, a lesson ended early and Zoe's son Dominic had to stay after to finish his math homework -- that gave us an extra hour because Zoe did not have to meet the bus.... we quickly saddled up and went for a good trot on the 6 mile loop. I grabbed Keri of course and Zoe rode Winter Dancer. She has not been out for quite some time.. so she was pretty pleased.  Dancer is a horse that was not born here - but came to us later in her life.  Since we began the barefoot trim on all of our horses... her feet are presently one of the ones under-going  the most noticeable change. A good trot on firm dirt road will help that process along.

We met a few buses -- bringing kids home.  Mostly we trotted ... making good time since we knew we were going to want to make at least side trip into water. At the start of the trip -- we navigated our neighborhood flood ~

I am sure there are many who find this quite annoying -- but the flood is handy for us... making the trips we take on horseback a bit more challenging and fun. Dancer has not had tons of exposure to water .. but she's going to see some today !

As we turn the corner to trot back on the opposite road... we can poke our way down the bank through the woods to this little waterfall. There is a lot of water forcing it's way through a small square hole someone built a long time ago in this wall.  Here's Dancer seeing it for the first time -- her introduction to fast moving water.

Sniffing the bank of the brook... the rocks are slippery and it's difficult to see the bottom, the water is rushing past so swiftly.

Never fails -- we come to water --
Keri has to stop and drink it.

We edge up closer to the falls.

I love old stone walls and I love a waterfall -- so this is a perfect combined sight for me :)

And here is the video footage of Dancer slipping on the stones and almost pushing Keri and me over -- Keri is so mesmerized by the rushing water -- she does not move an inch :)  To Dancer's credit -- she had a quick recovery and no one was unseated :)  Dancer is listed for sale by the way -- she is going to make someone a very loving sweet dependable mount for show or trail.

We have to trot fast home -- so Zoe is not late picking up Dominic... fun fun :)

Enjoy ~

  1. Thank goodness you didn't drop your camera in the water!!! I absolutely LOVE that spot with the Stone Wall Waterfall. Thank you for the pictures and video of this refreshing place. I think Dancer is beautiful, especially her face, which is very chiseled and refined. Lovely. Didn't you mention to me that she would make a good only horse? Does she like to go out on the trail alone? I hope she finds her own person soon! :)

  2. Awesome ride! I wish we had more water spots around here to discover. They all have very mucky bottoms though and a person sinks quite deep. Soon I will be able to post of Father-Daughter rides similar to you two! : )
