Fresh!

The following was supposed to post yesterday afternoon but posting via email said I had too many pictures so I am only getting to it now!

Not sure what was more fresh today; the new snow or my horse! And since we only got a light dusting I'm going to say my horse!
When I gave the morning feed Linus did a spinning kick thing (which I thankfully saw coming!) and broke the feed scoop handle! He didn't hit me at all but that is totally not acceptable and he got a good tuning in for it!
I missed out on a ride yesterday so wanted to make sure I got one in today before a Christmas get together with our trailriding gang! My Mom was getting out her Christmas things so all the tubs were blocking my saddle (now in the basement for winter) so I grabbed the bareback pad again and headed out. We did some groundwork first since I knew Linus was feelin' the fresh snow! I used the haywagon for mounting this time and off we went! Linus was still being pretty forward and even though I wanted to trot I didn't let him until he was more settled. I am proud that even though he was more wound than usual he still responded lightly to me.
I just love the trees like this!
In the slightly more slippery spots on the driveway I just gave him his head and could feel him shorten his stride and he was so good!
I rode him out to the road and he did it his most willingly yet with leaving Allie behind. I think the trailering out to rides is really helping. He's learning that no matter where he goes or how I dress him up he always comes home!!

There appears to be some potentially horse-eating turkeys in the trees over there!

I think something is coming up the road!

Yep, there it is!

While we were out near the road the snowplow came by and I took full advantage to see how Linus would act! Not an issue at all for him! I think after doing a parade in front of an 18 wheeler blasting its air horn the plow was a minor detail!
Good boy!
Let's go see what he's doing!

  1. Good job dodging that kick! Me in my old age, I don't know if I would have seen that one coming! So glad you got to get out!

  2. Whew, glad you are ok! AhD kicked me once last year when I was feeding out hay. I don't think he realized it was me he was kicking, and he didn't get me very hard. I turned around and yelled, "HEY, THAT'S ME YOUR KICKING!!!" and the look on his face was priceless. I still moved him around the paddock and kept him off his hay pile until I was satisfied that he would remember that mistake. They are such big animals; even though he didn't kick through and barely tapped me, I still had a whopping bruise.

  3. That happened to me with a neighbour's colt once. The whole back of my leg was black, blue, purple, green and white in the middle! Big ouchy! Yes I made Linus move around too and wouldn't let him at his feed until he dropped his head licking and chewing! Though looking back maybe he was just salivating for his feed!!
