Camping with Pyewacket

I started the curly promotion challenge with Pye last weekend at a camping, ride/drive weekend. There were about 20 horses there - some were driving and some riding. Pye is great camping in all conditions - she likes to hang out in her temporary electric fence paddock that is set up right off the trailer so she can keep close tabs on me (I sleep in the trailer) and check out whatever I'm eating. Apples and pears are great as are peanut butter sandwiches but she found tomatoes a great disappointment. The trail riding was lots of fun as we explored new terrain and Pye handled riding out with a friend fine as well as going along with carriages and larger groups of horses. Her biggest surprise was coming across a field full of goats that were being herded together by 2 large guard dogs. That was definitely an eyeful for both of us but after checking it out she went on down the trail. People commented on her temperament, soft eye and kind disposition and we discussed curlies in general. She was a great ambassador for the breed and I wore my curly t-shirt although it was so cold and windy that I had a few layers over it especially as the sun went down. Hard to believe it was cold since 2 days before it was extremely hot. The following photo shows Pye at the end of a large yawn - she really didn't get enough sleep in the night but she sure was good and there's nothing like lying in bed listening to your horse calmly munching hay right next to you. I have to say that as this curly mare matures and gains experience, we just have more and more fun together.

  2. Laurie, ok, AhD is asking, "How come I wasn't invited? Looks like fun! (except for the goats)" Actually, he has enough on his plate because he is going to be hauling my carcass around Acadia National Park next week. I hope AhD does the Curly breed proud just like Pye did. FANTASTIC JOB LAURIE AND PYE!
