I've been very busy with alot of things and haven't posted lately, but some Curly things have happened that I wanted to share. I'll share the loss first. This is Rocky shortly after he came home to me about 18 months ago. He was a recessive, extreme Curly. Some of you already know this from Facebook, but for the past ten months we had been treating Rocky for his teeth growing extremely quick and lacerating the inside of his cheeks as well as his tongue. We thought we had it almost healed when I realized the herd was treating him different again. The vet came out and we were astonished to see his tongue had gotten worse, but the teeth were not the problem this time. The vet took biopsies and the results were a cancer, which was treatable, but only if you removed the entire body part affected. Needless to say on August 29th we let our baby boy go to run with the herd up yonder. He was only 3-1/2. He was a true gentleman and is sorely missed.
Our vet and animal sitter gave us wonderful memories of Rocky, which I wanted to share with you. The vet took a mold of his hoof and then took some tail hair and made a heart braid out of it. Our animal sitter made her own picture frames and framed our favorite pictures of him.
What a sad sad story. I am so sorry for your loss!
ReplyDeleteI am about to loose another of mine too but due too old age which is acceptable. This is very hard.

ReplyDeleteMay I ask, was Rocky the extreme that came from QH breeding? What I mean is that was he considered a recessive bred Curly?

Yes, Shelly, he was a registered quarter horse and recessive Curly.

ReplyDeleteI too, still cried even though I already knew! You did right by him Janeen regardless of how hard it was. I thank you so much for sharing Rocky with us. I loved his personality and his huge heart. Rocky was a lucky boy to spend his last days with you. Keep your chin up!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for your loss...each horse touches our hearts and losing them tears our hearts. Rocky was a lucky boy to have someone that would set him free when needed..even in personal pain it causes.....hugs from Creekside
