Big Red meets a Big Rig!!

I haven't seen the movie YET but I have been reading Secretariat. I am only as far as him making his 3rd start. Thus far the book has showcased the personality of him as a youngster and there are so many similarities between him and Linus that I joke and call Linus Big Red. So, i stole Secretariat's nick name to make a catchy post title!! : )
Linus was not quite as wound up today when I got to the farm. He was very happy to see me and met me with his head over the gate instead of pretending to ignore me. Dad and I were talking while I was grooming Linus so he had a lesson in patience reinforced while we chatted. He tried to push me out of the way or get between Dad and I...I'm not really sure on that one. But anyway, I pushed right back and made him stay there until he got it. When we did go out we had probably the smoothest and calmest walk up the laneway yet. He dropped his head right away and walked along like a good boy. He did dance a little at the end of the driveway when Nessie, the large puppy, tried to get him to chase her. We went up a trail beside the farm but at the end of it where it turns into 2 hayfields was flooded and frozen so we couldn't go any further. Back up the trail we went.
We kept our walk going and went the opposite way to yesterday's outing. I forgot they were taking corn off up that way and that there was a truck parked on the road but it turned out to be something we decided to take advantage of!
I kept a close eye on Linus, ready to turn him around if he showed any signs of being too scared to continue. He walked right up to the truck and as you can see from the picture below started to investigate it! I should have expected that this would be his reaction. He danced a little as we passed the idling engine but he was quick to work out the truck wasn't going anywhere and we continued past. On the way back he was completely fine with it.

Lovin the smell of all that corn!

checkin' the tire pressure

this was as close to getting Linus with truck in the background as I could manage. I was being cautious in case he was spooked by it.

  1. Love his nick name--and your subtitles! Big Red is so cute. I simply love your walks with him. Very brave boy and sharp to realize that idling truck wasn't much to be concerned about.

  2. You are doing great! I simply love to show them the world, too! It is sooo cute when they got near that "monsters", getting suddenly curious instead of anxious!

  5. Thanks ladies!! I try to take full advantage of every potential monster. I'd rather encounter them on the ground than on his back!

  6. You look like you are doing a fantastic job with him! What a sweetheart. What a brave one Linus is :) The way that you are heading you won't have to worry about too much bothering him when you do start him undersaddle.
