New Member from Michigan

Hello there! It is so nice to actually say that I am part of this contest; I heard about it from my good friend, Ashley, who is in it with her mare Teke. I became very curious about it and got ahold of Denise...long story short, I am really happy to be here!

I have two Curly horses, a 9 yr old registered gelding named Coyote Moon Twister and a 13 yr old grade Bashkir Curly x Arabian mare named Shaneequah. I have done mostly trail riding with them, but have also done some 4-H classes, clinics and small speed shows, too. Yodie is currently my project horse, who was given to me by Sara Matthews of Kestral Farms in Harbor Springs (thanks again, Sara! :) I got him in May of 2008 and have done alot with him since then, including three parades, lots of trail riding, swimming, 4-H and clinics. I have debated on whether to sell him, but he is here to stay. I know that he is a great horse with lots of potential, and I want to be the rider to get him there (he is the one standing on the stool in the picture)

I fell in love with this breed in 2004, when we first got Shaneequah for my sister. She turned out to be a little too much for her at that point, so she gave her to me. I already had a APHA mare, but I just seemed to click even more with Shaneequah, so I just started to ride, ride ride her. She has turned out to be a fantastic trail horse, and goes through basically anywhere that I point her.

I am going to try to get involved with some competitive trail riding around my home, as I think it would be good for us (now, we just need to get our own trailer :/)

So, that is a little about the history behind me and my two Curlies :) Once I get on a faster computer I will try to download some more pics. Happy 2011!

  1. Welcome, Emily!
I ride endurance with my Curlies - it is quite a bit like competitive trail (which I haven't tried yet), but it is SO much fun! I have some Curly/Arab crosses as well, they are wonderful horses.

  4. Hello Emily and glad you happened upon this group...I am sure you will be as well!

Sounds like you have come a long way with Yodie over the past 2 years; can't wait to see where you two are headed!

I also have curly/Arab crosses and look forward to getting them out on the trails with some distance riding--maybe in 2011!

Anxious to read and see more of the three of you this year.

  6. Thank you all :) I am so happy to be here. What a unique competition that not only promotes the Bashkir Curly breed but also learning on how we can better ourselves as riders in general. Can't wait to see how this year pans out!
