I rode Theo Friday and all he wanted to do was trot over the ground poles! So I decided we would jump yesterday. I'm being brave and posting a video of Theo and I, please keep in mind that I have never had a jumping lesson and my main goal is to not crash :-)
As far as our riding: his canter is really improving and he is becoming more balanced. We still have a ways to go but not to bad for 4 months of training. He really does not like to bend going clockwise and for the longest time would not pick up the correct lead. Now that he has more muscle we are getting the correct lead more often but it's still a focus of ours.
All this arena work is really good but I so want to go for a nice long trail ride!

Today I rode Abby on her first outside ride! We went towards the woods so I could get her up and down a hill. She was so good. I've trained several stock type horses and Arabian so I assume the worst but Nothing bothered her. It was like we've been riding for years.

Well here is the video... It was our first time doing a bounce (I think that's what it's called) and the really bad jump is our first time cantering over it. He really wanted to refuse but managed to get him over it.
The other girl in the video is Natalie and that is Mr. Amigo she is riding. He LOVES to jump as you can see and makes it look so easy!
It never failed someone was riding in front of the camera when I would jump.

Okay I tried to upload the video but it wouldn't take so here is the youtube link.

  1. Sounds like good progress! :)

I'm curious--do you tend to free jump horses first before riding them over jumps, or do you just go for it?

Sage and I did a few teeny weeny jumps his first month under saddle at the trainer's but he has a sacroiliac injury so we don't do jumps anymore. :( Looks like a ton of fun!

  2. I tend to just go for it honestly. I don't have the arena to really free jump him, however I am going to a clinic the end of the month and we may do some free jumping.

  4. Yes I agree, very nice to have an arena! Yes, if you can, try free jumping! You can really see from it what horse loves jumping and what one does not!
