Linus has a girlfriend!

It took us 2.5 hours to load "Allie", my Dad's Birthday horse onto a trailer but we eventually got her on and nobody was hurt. She had never been on a trailer before. She isn't a Curly so I am not going to say too much about her but what I do have to say was how pleased I was with Linus remembering his manners while we unloaded the new horse. I haltered and held him while they were introduced over the fence and then while she was led into the pasture. Even though there was a new little hottie for him to check out (Linus is a gelding!) he still listened to me much better than I thought he was going to. This is so great for him; he needs to be reminded of some horsey manners and she seems just the girl to show him! The meeting was pretty uneventful and went smoothly, again with nobody getting hurt. Except maybe the ego of Linus when at first she ignored him.
On to challenges. I accidentally loaded pictures from today first so we will work backwards. It was raining today so I figured the perfect day to tackle the raincoat! Linus took it right in stride and I was able to get some pretty good pictures! It was also a good lesson for Allie who at nearly 4 years old has only basic halter skills. She leads and backs well but that's it. So watching how many things Linus willingly accepts is helping her a great deal. She even sniffed the rain coat! I will be passing my challenge papers on to Dad...I of course (jokingly) told him my 2 year old knows more than his 4 year old!

I think he needs a bigger raincoat!

He walked on it inside and out

hmmm..feels a bit different to the bareback pad and saddle!

His ears are back but its because Allie was telling him off. I think she is jealous of all he can do! He really did not at all mind having the hood right up to his ears. He does get very jealous if I pet her though! I was scratching her and Linus walked his muzzle the length of my arm and tried to get it onto him. He didn't get mean but was just trying to tell me I belonged to him!

What a character!

The above picture is from yesterday. It was a beautiful day. The wind was a bit cool but not bad. After the horses had settled in, Dad wanted to take Allie out to play with her a bit and get to know her. We brushed them first then brought them up by the barn. Dad went first but I had to pass them because she was unsure about passing the tractor and going near the barn and cows. Once she saw Linus was ok with it all though she had no problem going to check things out.

Above was taken within the first few minutes of unloading her. Linus is so desperately trying to make a friend! Could there be a better colour match?!?!?

The sun has its effect on this picture but you can easily see Linus is passing the heavy equipment test with flying colours.

The 4wheeler is not as big in the equipment category and obviously not scary to him either! In fact I kept telling him to leave the things in it alone. He did pull a hilarious move that had Dad and I doubled over though; he picked up a snot rag and dropped it down my husband's shirt!
I didn't load the picture but Linus also met a set of discs. I think he has now met every piece of heavy equipment on the farm. With and without a motor! So now we will be searching for some off-farm!
We went for a short walk and my boy continued to impress me with his manners while in the presence of a lady....or maybe that's why he was behaving!! : )

  1. Hey! Both of our Curlies have a buddy named Allie!!! They make a cute couple. AhD loves his Allie. They pretend they are wild stallions in the paddock and rear and bite and paw. AhD is the instigator, and he is so good at it that he can turn a 17 year old do-di-do gelding into a wild and crazy guy.

  3. You're doing a wonderful job with the obstacles! I haven't accomplished any of them yet because of various things, but I know Tygs will do well with some of them at least. Glad the new horse introduction went well! Keep up the good work!

  4. Thank you so much gals!! It's awesome knowing you enjoy my rambling on about what we get up to! I'm tackling the easy ones first. I have to travel to a nearby farm to do some of them and I'm hoping for better weather/footing before doing that!
