Shelly - I hope you had a grand birthday today. I have to ask though -- why were you born on such a --BRRR--- cold day ? Zoe and I saddled up for what we thought would be a quick trot out... what with cold cold and lots of wind. Once we were out however -- it was too much fun to return home. Today my saddle felt better than ever :)

Here's the sky today -- thick patterned clouds with a feeling of impending snow.

So - before you call the authorities on the trespass ... this is my posted sign :)  We headed up my logging road/trail to climb the mountain and do a big loop crossing the road and around the other side.

We hit some icy spots ... snow still clings to the heavier wooded areas.

Elektra is at the bottom of the hill -- Keri waits patiently at the top so we can snap a photo.

Once out in the field we cut across.. we came upon that same turkey hen we bump into often. I wonder why she's a loner this year and not a part of the
flock ? She is a descendant of a mating of domesticated turkey and wild turkey -- that's why she has so much white on her. We've been watching her grow up in the 'hood' and raise chicks of her own.

The town stays busy during mud season with the dirt roads.

A long view today -- we reached home in time for hail and snow to start whipping.
This was one of those plain jane rides that was very satisfying just because we were in the saddle and on the trail :)

We enjoyed riding out on your special day Shelly...

  1. Looks like you had a good ride! Happy birthday, Shelly! Tygs and I couldn't make it out because we've been pelted with freezing ice, rain and it's supposed to turn to snow tonight! I was so bummed! Maybe next year!

  3. Lovely ride. A ride just makes the day so much better, doesn't it? Curious about that turkey; I was wondering why she had so much white on her. Wild turkeys never seem to pay much mind to our domesticated ones.
