Mud Season, Shedding Season, Fun Times!

The weekend weather was just wonderful despite all the mud, water, and hair. My husband built me 2 obstacles for the mini challenge (he says more are coming, only a few at a time). The one great thing about being apart of RAC is that it is a good motivator also to get him to get these things built instead of putting them off every year :) Saturday we kinda ran out of daylight for both ride time and doing the obstacles on the ground so I chose to just lead Marley and Larry to the obstacles that we could get done in one evening. We where able to work the mailbox with the flag (the door is broken so it pops open unexpectedly all the time, so it is a good thing I think!) Larry wanted to play with it that he pushed it over into the mud. Then I went to the dollar store and got some really pretty colorful wind spinners, those didn't really bother them a bit. In the process of doing these obstacles we walked through several water filled areas. Finally the fun obstacle....the tickle alley. Both boys where just funny about this obstacle. We would walk up to it, I would go through and they would follow until their chests would hit the noodles and they would just stop. With a little bit of grain, alot of encouraging, Larry walked through, Marley litleraly did a standing jump over the noodles! So we spent some time on that one going through it from both sides till you could see they where saying "Ok enough with the pretty colors, can I go eat now?" Yesterday I took Marley out for a ride while my kids took a nap so it was a quick ride, but at least I got one in and redid the obstacles in the saddle that we did on the ground the night before. Marley and I did one more with the trampoline with my husband jumping on it. Marley got so good at the mailbox that we side passed up to it and then side passed back away from it. We even got a lope in yesterday for a few strides anyway being we have such a short drive, but it felt so good to feel that lope that I have been longing for to feel all winter! I am hoping to get through a few more obstacles during the week and the weekend. Larry is getting a new saddle and pad, so I am waiting on those to come in before I do any saddle time with him. I am wishing everyone luck on the mini contest, it has been alot of fun and looking forward to more fun things to play with!

  1. Dana! Cool beans! Great pictures and story to go with your obstacles. I see you have mud in your neck of the woods, too.

  2. I love the obstacles your husband is building for you!! I need to find an alternative to pool noodles since I'm more than positive Linus will try to bite big chunks out of them! Loved your post!

  4. Cool noodles! Mine rotted in our pool - chlorine will make them break down. Wish I could come by and use yours.

  5. The kids and the dogs like going through that tickle alley as much as I do, it is quite comical! The only bad part is if he takes the time to help me with my horse stuff I have to help him clean his garage :) So he says anyway.

  6. I love your pool noodle obstacle! It looks great. I tried convincing my husband to build me something but it's not really his thing:) I love your post.
