Everyone has heard that phrase in my title at one time or another. Well, yesterday (Monday) was as warm as Sunday in the middle of the day, and I already knew we were going to get snow Tuesday, so-- totally ignoring the laundry that needed folding, the plants that needed watering, the dust ball "kittens" (dog hair builds up fast and we have forced hot air heat, which I HATE,) the stalls that needed cleaning, the thawed pasture poop that I could have cleaned up rather than have it hip deep in Spring, I rode Dream instead!! This is a case of "must ride while the sun shines."
I won't bore you with any video of all the places you've seen before, because I'm sure that all of the "horses in snow," while pretty for those of us riding, can grow old. I'm so jealous of Zoe because she has their indoor arena she can use when she needs to "work."
I didn't take new video this trip, but since we rode the same route we had the day before, I'll show a couple more clips taken the day before, like the big blemish of a cell tower that went up in a field we used to be able to ride in... Now it is posted "No Trespassing."
This next bit shows some of the houses on Old Village Rd. that we see on our ride.
No great big adventure, but very good for me to have a chance to ride two days in a row, because I'm still finding that I have to rebuild strength I lost last year when I had knee surgery and then complications, so once I could ride again I was limited to a half hour at a time! I'm pleased to say that so far the "trick knee" is feeling FINE in the saddle, but not as flexible and strong as it was when mounting!

Laurie, how wonderful! I can imagine that it takes a lot of training again after your surgery to regain power! Just take your time. I simply love that ship shaking videos taken from a horse, but I missed the ears lol^^ Keep on posting!

I love seeing your quaint little street too. Maybe next time I get out east, I can travel a bit more and visit you! =]

Go, Laurie, Go! I am the same way...the work can wait, but the opportunity to ride will pass us by. I am actually not sick of seeing "horse in snow" pictures, and I bet Denise is not either, because it is her favorite time of year to ride.

Thanks for your encouragement everyone! Last year was a bad year for me overall, physically, and it took a lot more out of me than I was expecting. When we were socked into that frigid spell of single digits and a snow storm to clean up every other day, I was really beginning to wonder if perhaps I was approaching the time to no longer have a horse in my life. Though, honestly, since it is the horses who have brought me back physically so many times, I was a little surprised to have the thought enter my mind. The idea of leaving chores came from Shelly, actually! I remembered her saying it back at one time on Curly Haven! She said "There are ALWAYS chores! You have to ride first." I am trying to be sure to do that so I remember why I do all the work!! So-- thanks for your words everyone! Laurie
ReplyDeleteMy RAC log sheet for last year shows pretty graphically what a year it "wasn't" for me riding-wise! We rode twice in Jan, 2 times in Feb, 6 in March, only three between April AND May, and my last ride on 06/01/10 was only a half hour! Three weeks later I had arthroscopic surgery on the left half of my knee that hadn't been replaced in Feb.2009. Between the complications and physical therapy, I wasn't allowed to ride again until 09/05/10, and from then until 10/18/10 I was only allowed to ride a half hour at a time. So it wasn't until the end of Oct. I was able to get back to an hour ride, and even then, it was a lot of walk work! And the last hour I rode was on 12/29/10 when we already had deep snow! It was NOT a good year, and my girl got even "fluffier" than she usually is! She is a "wick-ed" (that is a colloquial Maine saying, and the accent is on the last syllable!) easy keeper. :-) Laurie
ReplyDeleteI'm glad we fit in our nice ride together last year, and I look forward to riding with you again this year. AhD is a wicked easy keeper, but Al lives on air, so AhD isn't as fluffy this year as he has been past winters when he ate along side a hard keeper.

Hi Sarah- What I have learned so far is that the total size of the video clips have to be under limit, and even then they are slow to load... It's taken a while for me to figure this out.
