April Fools?

Does this scene conjur up thoughts of April trail riding? It doesn't for me, either. But, this is Prince Didder and me out ramming around with our riding buddies today, after yesterday's April Fools Day blizzard. No mini-contest moves for us, instead we were out in about a foot of heavy snow. The sun was shining, and I bet it was 40 degrees! It was LOVELY!!! A very pleasurable ride. We could not cross the snowmobile bridge safely, but we didn't really care. Instead, we rode both across the road and behind the house. Look at these relaxed, sweet boys. AhD's floppy ears are listening to me talk soothing "good-boy" talk while I scratch his withers. I think he was drooling, he was so relaxed when we stopped here to let them have a break from their hard work.

What is this animal track? We thought it was a coyote. Notice how it is one, two, three-four steps continuously in a straight line. If it is a coyote, it passed darn close to my neighbor's homes and my barn. Probably looking for chickens.

I thought I'd show you southerners what it is like to slog through deep snow in the Maine woods in APRIL!!!! :D ~Susan and Didder~

  1. we did that sludging through snow on Friday when we got off the road onto trail. It's still deep in the woods and add some 'fool'ish weather -- it's even deeper now.

  2. Good Ol' Didder!! That WAS some deep snow! I'm with you Susan...sure doesn't look like April here either...but like you, we smile and still enjoy being on our favorite equine! Sun shining....it felt wonderful. Thanks for sharing!!

  3. Didder is such a good boy. Do you have the top part of his tail clipped or is that just the way his hair goes? The one picture looks like from a distance his tail is plaited or clipped. Can't believe how much snow you still have. We only have snowbanks left where the snow was piled high. That can change fast but I hope that's it!

  5. Donna, Didder is an 80's kind of guy and likes to wear a mullet, so he rubs out the top of his tail.

    :)
