First Ride!!

Today a friend of mine (also a Curly owner) came over to see Suri and help me out for the first ride. She was really impressed with both Suri's looks and also her quiet and relaxed attitude! I saddled Suri (I have a temporary saddle on loan now:) and first lunged her. I had not lunged her with a saddle before but she did not mind it. The left hand is her least favourite so she ran a little but only a few strides before settling down. Then it was time for me to get on. I know now I need a mounting block!!! I could not reacht the stirups:) LOL My friend helped me up and held Suri. I started with a round on my belly on the saddle just to see how she was and then sat up in the saddle. Suri was still on the lungeline and we practiced walk and halt. She was really relaxed and I am sure I could have asked for her to trot but she was allready sweating so bad ( it was about 20 degrees C today!) and she was being so good I decided to leave it at this for today. I am going for a slow but secure start with the riding:) I am really happy with how she behaved for the first time having me on her back and am looking forward to continuing our training! I brought my camera along but was too bussy with Suri to remember about is, sorry no pictures of me riding yet. Jessica and Suri, the Netherlands (I remembered finally:)

  1. Good job Jessica! Hope Suri sheds a lot of her coat soon. But then you will have a horse looking quite different.

  4. Suri is shedding about a bucket full of hair each day! And she still has a really thick coat. It will be nice for her indead to get into her summer coat and indeed she will be looking completely different again:)
Voelie is really interested in what I am doing with Suri, she stands and watches most of the time, I hope she is learning by watching:)
