Today I decided to cross the road and ride a piece of woods down to a snowmobile trail. Since Saturday is dump day in Hebron and we live on a blind hill on the road that goes to the dump, I decided to lead AhD (Didder) and the dogs across the road and into the woods to be safe.
This is where I mounted. Harold, can you catch a glimpse of my junky ol’ WESTERN saddle. I was thinking of you as I tacked up. English pad, though.Today’s ride was a treat, winding our way down in and around trees and across stone walls on the way to the trail. AhD is outstanding at bushwhacking; it makes him focus on me and listen to allow me to pick the way. He was very forward and full of energy, but no funny business except for one big hind kick out at the dogs near the beginning of the ride when he just couldn’t contain himself. I let it slide because the dogs were nowhere near us. No Fake Pee acts today, but he did slide in an oldie but a goodie Fake Act – the one where he pretends to be dying of thirst so that he can get a snatch of grass and leaves.
Oh speaking of eating, today he wanted to snack on little pine trees! I think he must read the RAC Blog, because in all the years I’ve had him, I have never known him to snack on pine like some of your Curlies do. Amazing.
See all the tracks? They are deer trails! We followed a lot of them today. We rode past my neighbor’s blind way up in a tree. Didder spotted it right away, and was suspicious. We rode over to it and around it, so he could sniff the ladder.
Here we are down on the snowmobile trail. I have finally mastered taking a video at a (very!!!) beginners level, so join us on the walk!
Not as exciting as Betsy’s nor the view of Shelly’s, but it gives you a good taste of what I experience on my rides.
I bet you are all in love with my forward, willing, listening Curly boy now, aren’t you? I don’t blame you. He is the apple of my eye, especially when he is being so awesomely good like he was today.
Wonderful pics! Soo funny how you track the traces, it almost sounds like the thoughts of your boy! Thanks for sharing it!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry but I have to chuckle once again at how similar our horses are, Susan. The peeing, the sneaking snacks. lol. Recently, Reese thought he was thirty and kept reaching down to eat snow. I think he thought it was just a fun game. lol. I am glad AHD was good for you, inspite of the little kick at the dog...or in the vicinity. =] Loved the video!! Glad you didn't video tape cantering up that hill!! My palms were sweating. ha ha.
ReplyDeleteAWSOME video!! I love how his ears are constantly on you!!
ReplyDeleteYour scenery is lovely, Susan - we don't have any forests around here to speak of, so it is nice to see a bunch of trees on the sides of your trails! Aren't snowmobile tracks great? We have never had them here before, but they sure make the riding trails about perfect!
