First I want to say HAPPY NEW YEAR everybody, in good health, happiness and everything you wish for.
I am very excited about the RAC, and Thank you Denise for doing all this, I think it is amazing the afford you make to promote the curly horses!!
We have 3 absolute gorgeous curly horse all from Stagcreek farm. Stagcreek Lydiker, Warrior Freedom, Stagcreek Mallie Berndtie. Also we have Kayla and Moose (Jackson) we rescued in December. Freedom and maybe Mallie are the horses I will ride this year. Mallie is not trained yet but I will start her this spring, she is very frisky.
Today I really wanted to ride Freedom only ride him 4 or 5 times so we need to make more miles. I hadn’t ridden him in 8 weeks to busy at the B&B and the farm, sickness etc. We had so much rain yesterday and today the sun was out, beautiful day. So as soon church ended, I changed cloths and ran to the barn. When I went into the field to get Freedom he was taking a nap. But when he saw me he came right up and was excited we were having plans.
My husband made me something to tight up the horses. I am freaking out when I have a young horse and he is going to pull or do something stupid. This really works great. Freedom is already used to it and he was fine. Mallie however she thought she could run away ……NOT so she started running in circles. Silly girl.
We went on the trail at our property when suddenly Freedom was having company. One of the mares we have in boarding got out of the field and decided to join us. She was into a game and passed us with her tail up in the air. Freedom was getting excited and I had a hard time keeping him with me. The mare went into another trail and I tried to get Freedom in the opposite direction. It took some convincing but he did it….wauw I was so proud of him, he was all by himself now and that’s a big thing I think.
We went to the house, because I wanted my husband take a picture. We have 2 fake cows in the front yard, and Freedom needed to inspect them closely.
After that we went on and passed the neighbors field with…..real cows…...But don’t you see those are monsters I am not passing those Freedom said snoring and shaking.
I felt sorry for him, he was really scared. He has been around cows before but those where small heifers, these where BIG mama cows and really scary. So I dismounted and lead him, he was fine by that.
I got back in the saddle and we went on. The rest of our ride he was doing great. I am so proud of him, he took a lot of obstacles. He is so inexperienced but he handled it all like a pro!
That's so interesting about him being nervous about the cows, because Dream was quite uncomfortable about them the first time they showed up near the fence on the farm we ride through! She is fine about them now.
ReplyDeleteHi Marion, Freedom sounds like a great horse! I love the pictures of his ears, so cute!
ReplyDeleteHope to read more about your rides.
Greetings from the Netherlands!
Hello Marion! Gelukkig Nieuwjaar! Greeting from very near to the Netherlands!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! I have always wondered what it would be like to have a horse get out and chase us up the trail like that! What a good boy (and good riding on your part too!) to keep Freedom's attention especially since he is so young and green! That pic is hilarious. What is it with real cows?? Reese is the SAME way! Love the pic of him with the fake cows...that's darling!
