Happy New Year to everybody!
This is my first year in the RAC and I am very exited to be part of this team. I have one Curly filly, JB Rosies Lagavulin, I call her Voelie. My mare has been sold and moved to a lovely new home only three days ago so Voelie has just been weaned. I haven't done very much with Voelie yet. When she was born last april I had just given birth to my second son so it was a bussy year. Now I want to spend more time with my Curly!
Today the snow started melting making everything slushy, muddy and wet. It was foggy outside, raining a bit and alltogether not my kind of weather! Normally on days like this I just go to feed Voelie and give her a cuddle and then very quickly go back home. Today I decided to stick to my plan and actually DO someting with my horse. I put her halter on and a leadrope, this sounds simple but has been a struggle before, she behaved very well and was very relaxed. I took her out of the field (fot the first time without her mother being there with her) and had her walk with me on the grounds. I practiced stopping and having her backing up. We also inspected all the machines (tractors etc.) and basicly everything that was around. She was hesitant to walk through the big puddles of icy water but with a bit of encouragement from me she followed me in the water. I am so proud of Voelie! Even though I have not done very much with her she was very easy to handle. At the end of our 'session' she had a nice bowl of feed and went back to her Shetland pony friends in the field. She was ready to come straight back out and do more! A good sign because we will be doing more! I hope to continue to regularly take her out of the field and get her used to all sorts of things. We need quite a bit more work before venturing out on the road but that is definately a goal!
Here are some pictures I took today, not the best quality because I was focussing more on Voelie than on the camera:)
" I am following you, where are we going Jessica?"
"Let's check out this white stuff, it might just be different from the white stuff in my field.. Maybe it's edible!"
" Wow, a machine, is it edible.."
" Why am I back IN my field and why is the gate closed.. I want more!"
" Whew, I'm tired now. I'd better rest my head on my friends back!"
Great job!! Nice to see your Voelie!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a real Dutch day weather wise. Today here in KY LOTS of rain and lots of mud. I thought this morning it's like I am in NL :-) I realy wanted to go out and ride today pfff.
Good luck!
I love the typical Curly attitude of "Is it edible?" Some of them seem to use their mouths like toddlers do! Great post! Laurie
ReplyDeleteLaurie Welcome! I love your little girl! She has a great attitude and you work with her curiosity well and she is very photogenic. Don't forget to include some of mom too:).
ReplyDeleteJessica, love all those curls on your pretty little Curly filly! I look forward to news on groundwork progress with her this year.
ReplyDeleteWelcome Jessica. Your Voelie is a cute little girl! I'll bet you enjoyed the day as much as she did.
ReplyDeleteThank you all. I hope to get some better pictures of Voelie, she is even prettier than the pictures suggest!
ReplyDeleteMarion, indeed a typical Dutch winter:)
Oh Jessica..I am SO far behind on reading posts! I loved reading this and seeing your pics. You and Donna Wilson have alot in common..owning just youngsters right now and doing alot on the ground in preparation for riding. Makes all of us want a little one around! LOL. It's awesome to have you with us, representing The Netherlands! I see you and Marion connected...that's awesome!
